Step into something different. The natural beauty of Snowdonia meets eclectic style in Jacha's luxurious boutique lets.
Having long had an interest in interiors and design Jacha is the creative director behind the Alpine Apartments.
When the railway station at Betws-y-Coed opened in 1868, it had been built in one of the most fashionable styles of the 19th century – the Gothic Revival. One hundred and forty six years later, with the opening of the new Alpine Apartments, the station is set, once again, to grab attention as a destination of style.!
There are five apartments, each designed by Jacha to create a little bit of magic, here in the heart of the forest park. Climb the stairs, turn the key and you’ll find exotic spaces of richly different hues, filled with innovative design, artistic touches and plenty of surprises. There are scallop-edged metalware surfaces and original artworks. There are touches of fun (seek out the gnomes and spot, if you can, the tiny metal faces worked into the sides of sinks). There are seams of modernity, including polished and sealed concrete floors. And there are elegant antiques, among them burnished old pine chapel chairs. The influences Jacha has gleaned from years of travel are evident in the design and elements of each room. Moorish double doors open onto a bathroom; copper kitchen piping salutes the ingenuity of African township plumbing; the dried herbs you are welcome to use when cooking hail from, amongst other culinary hot spots, Turkey and France.
An ardent ‘up-cycler’, Jacha has included arresting artistic installations within the apartments, reusing items such as old glass bottles to fill a corner – or a complete area (don’t miss the chandelier like no other as you climb those stairs) – with radiant colour. Guests will eat, too, off vintage crockery – the Duraline Super Vitrified hotel ware, which railway travellers here once had their meals served on.
Such touches are complemented in each apartment with Jacha’s exacting eye for detail and comfort. The sheets and pillowcases are of the softest linen; the mattresses are made to sink into; the bathroom fittings and towels are of the highest quality. To ensure guests feel at home there is also, amongst many other things, free Wi-Fi and a radio CD player, with iPod/iPhone dock.!
With their beautiful location and extraordinary interiors, the Alpine Apartments are now staged to provide a memorable setting for a short, or longer, holiday.
