'Protection' - Casey Nadine Banwell
Another amazing sculpture by Casey Nadine Banwell has found us here at the Betws-y-Coed Railway Station! Casey’s piece titled ‘Protection’ of a pangolin has been purchased by us for £2,500, with the promise of a portion of proceeds of that going to pangolin conservation funds! We received a video from our friend Elisa Panjang at Pangolin Aware receiving this money - we hope it goes on to save lives and support Pangolins in Malaysia!
“Protection” is a limited edition sculpture by Casey Nadine Banwell. Casey dedicates her talents creating sculptures that generate funds to protect the species from which the piece is inspired. “Protection” portrays Pangolin in their natural defence position. Curled into a ball, with a layer of scales forming an impenetrable armour. The sculpture signifies the fragility of Pangolin and depicts the natural beauty, innocence and vulnerability of this unique species. Due to poaching by man, its only successful predator, this humble creature has been driven to the brink of extinction before the rest of the world even knows it exists.

A couple recently purchased ‘Protection’ from Oriel Ospie to celebrate their engagement, and we followed through with our promise of sending £500 of the payment to Pangolin Aware, making it a total of £1000 (£500 from the donation when we purchased, and a further £500 from selling it on.) This money has been sent to Elisa, and will be spent on the vital work that they do saving and rehabilitating wild pangolins, and saving them from the black market, where they would have been sold for medicine, meat or home decor.
