Raising awareness of the most trafficked mammal in the world.
Jacha created two Pangolin sculptures to raise awareness of these fascinating creatures, sadly they are the most trafficked mammal in the world and many people have never heard of them.
As with Rhino horn, Pangolin scales are in demand as they are believed to hold medicinal properties and Pangolin meat is considered by some to be a delicacy. Again as with Rhino horn, Pangolin scales are made up of Keratin, much like our own hair and nails!
There are 8 species of Pangolin, while varying in size and colour all 8 species have scales, long curved claws for digging into termite mounds and an appetite for ants.
You can see Jacha’s Pangolin sculptures on display at the Platform Galeri.
